Input Where What it does
Click a tile Video area Select it (Unlock: transport + clock follow; Lock: audio follows)
Double-click a tile Video area Maximize / restore
Ctrl+click a tile Video area Mark for swap; Ctrl+click a second tile to swap places
Drag a splitter Between tiles Resize adjacent tiles
Double-click a splitter Between tiles Reset that layout’s tile sizes
Drag files from Explorer Anywhere on window Add videos (Unlock Mode, up to 4)
Click the slider track Transport bar Jump to that time
Drag the slider thumb Transport bar Scrub (pauses while dragging; in Lock Mode previews on the selected tile, realigns on release)
Scroll wheel Over sliders Adjust that slider
Middle (wheel) click Anywhere on window Runs its mapped action, if one is assigned (chapter 13)

Keyboard shortcuts

QuickTime / editing-suite conventions (chapter 7). They don’t fire while the cursor is in a text field, and they work from the detached transport window too.

Key What it does
Space Play / pause
Left / Right Step back / forward one frame (while paused)
J Backward scan; press again for faster (2×, 4×, 8×, 16× — the top two speeds are keyboard-only)
K Pause, cancelling any scan
L Forward scan; press again for faster (2×, 4×, 8×, 16× — the top two speeds are keyboard-only)
Home / End Go to start / end of the timeline

Mapped mouse actions (via the Mouse Buttons window)

Action Effect
Play / Pause Same as the transport button
Step forward / back one frame Same as +1f / -1f
Step forward / back four frames Same as +4f / -4f
Skip forward / back 4 seconds Four-second jump on the timeline — available only as a mouse mapping (no button or key)
Copy Timecode Same as the transport button — copies the current timecode, regardless of the automatic-clipboard toggle
Forward 2× / 4× Start a forward scan
Rewind 2× / 4× Start a backward scan
Set Zero Point Same as the transport button (Unlock Mode)
Toggle Lock Mode Switch between Lock and Unlock
Toggle Mute Mute/unmute the selected tile

Mapped F13–F24 side buttons work while the app or its floating transport is the active window. Mapped wheel actions work while pointing at the video area. Mapped ordinary side buttons and the mapped middle (wheel) click work anywhere over the app window. Left and right click are reserved for operating the interface (tile select, Ctrl+click swap, double-click maximise, sliders, the Mark Split menu) and cannot be mapped. (Side-plate buttons require the Synapse F13–F24 setup, and mappings only act for the machine’s active mouse — chapter 13.)

Troubleshooting

Tiles freeze or stutter and drift apart, but the sound plays on. The graphics card is short of VRAM — not an app fault (chapter 12). Close GPU-heavy apps, browsers first. If the VRAM indicator stays high with them closed, sign out and back in, or restart Windows; some allocations aren’t released by closing apps alone.

“Cannot add videos in Lock Mode.” By design — the Lock group is fixed. Switch to Unlock Mode, add the video, line it up, switch back.

The track name I typed vanished. Only tracks in the database are accepted (keeps package names consistent). Add the track first: flag button → Add → Save. Check the discipline radio matches — suggestions only come from the selected discipline.

Save Package refuses. Track name, race date and race number are all required; the dialog names what’s missing.

A package opened with empty tiles. The video files aren’t where they were when the package was saved — a dialog listed the missing paths. Put the files back (or reload the angles manually and re-save).

Packages are saving to a strange place / the browser is empty. Check PackageSavePath in Settings — on a machine the installer seeded, it may point at a folder from the original machine (chapter 2).

No sound. You hear only the selected tile. Check the right tile is selected, its mute button isn’t on, and the volume slider is up. Scans silence audio while they run — that’s deliberate.

During a Lock-Mode scrub the other tiles don’t move. That’s intended — only the tile you’re watching previews the drag, and the rest realign the moment you release (chapter 7). It keeps dragging responsive on four heavy tiles.

My timecode keeps overwriting what I copy. In Lock Mode the app copies the timecode to the clipboard at every pause. Turn it off with the clipboard toggle in the top toolbar while you’re copying other things (chapter 8); it stays as you left it next launch, unless the ClipboardWriteStartup setting forces a starting state. With it off you can still take a timecode when you want one — press Copy Timecode on the transport bar, which works regardless of the toggle.

My mapped mouse buttons do nothing. First check the active mouse: mappings only act once your model is marked “Use this mouse on this machine” in the Mouse Buttons window (chapter 13) — the status log says so when that’s the reason. For Naga side buttons, two further requirements: Synapse must send F13–F24 for side buttons 1–12, and the app must be the active window. Test in the Mouse Buttons window’s detection log — if the log sees nothing, Synapse isn’t sending the key (note some Synapse versions only send remapped keys while Synapse is running, and wireless can behave differently from wired — chapter 13).

Backward scrubbing is choppy. That’s the footage’s keyframe spacing, not a fault. Use Fast Seek (chapter 11).

Fast Seek says ffmpeg is not found. Install ffmpeg and make sure ffmpeg and ffprobe are on the system PATH; then try again (chapter 11, with a step-by-step walkthrough in appendix 18). Remember PATH changes only reach newly opened programs — reopen the app after making one.

Mark Split or Cut to Files is greyed out, or says ffmpeg is not found. Both buttons need exactly one video loaded — close any extras (your marks are kept). Both are Unlock Mode only. Like Fast Seek, splitting needs ffmpeg and ffprobe on the PATH (chapter 4).

A red “Clipboard” banner appeared. Another program had the clipboard locked when the app tried to copy the timecode. It clears itself; the next pause writes normally.

Pressing Play/Pause during a backward scan starts playing. Intended. To stop a backward scan and stay parked, press -1f or +1f.

My Excel edits didn’t appear after Import from Excel. Import adds new tracks and skips ones already in the database, so edited rows are seen as duplicates. To apply bulk edits, clear the database first, then Import from Excel — the import re-adds everything, edits included (chapter 10).

A window came up in an awkward place / off-screen. Window positions are remembered per window; if a saved position is off-screen (a monitor was unplugged) the app ignores it automatically. Move the window once and it’s remembered.

Everything’s gone wrong and I want a clean slate. Close Package (or just close and restart the app). Settings, tracks and mappings live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MultiAngleVideoPlayer (chapter 2); deleting a file there resets that one thing to defaults on next launch.

The app crashed. %LOCALAPPDATA%\MultiAngleVideoPlayer\crash.log records what happened — include it when reporting.

FAQ

Do I have to align the videos every time? No. Align once, Save Package, and Open Package brings it all back to the frame. That’s what packages are for (chapter 9).

What’s the difference between the zero point and an offset? The zero point is the moment (the start of the race) that the shared timeline calls 0:00. An offset is how far into a particular file that moment falls. One zero point, one offset per tile (chapter 3).

My footage is one file with all the angles in it, one after another. Can I use it? Yes. The split feature cuts a single multi-angle file into separate videos — losslessly, near-instantly, and without altering the original — then loads them across the tiles ready to align. You mark where each angle ends, then Cut to Files (chapter 4).

Why does the time jump when I click a different tile in Unlock Mode, but not in Lock Mode? In Unlock Mode the clock shows the selected tile’s own file time, so it changes with the selection. In Lock Mode the clock is the shared race timeline, the same no matter which tile you select (chapters 3 and 8).

How can I tell which file is loaded in each tile? Click the identify (tag) button at the top-right of the toolbar: every tile flashes its file name for a few seconds, and the full paths are copied to the clipboard so you can paste the exact files elsewhere (chapter 6).

Can a track be both a gallops and a harness track? Yes. In the track database, discipline is a set of checkboxes, so tick as many as apply. (On the main toolbar, a race is one discipline — that’s a single choice.)

How do I bulk-edit the track database? Export to Excel, edit in Excel, clear the database, Import from Excel (chapter 10).

Does exporting to Excel only export what the filters show? No — Export to Excel always writes the entire database, every track and every field, whatever the list filters are set to (chapter 10).

Four tiles are stuttering. Is the app broken? Almost certainly not — it’s the graphics card short of memory (chapter 12). Close browsers; if that’s not enough, sign out and back in or restart Windows.

Why is one video frozen on its first (or last) frame in Lock Mode? Its footage doesn’t cover the current shared time — it starts after the zero point, or ends before the others. It joins in as soon as the timeline reaches its range (chapter 3).

Can I use the controls on a second monitor? Yes — Detach floats the transport bar into its own always-on-top window you can put anywhere; it comes back floating next launch (chapter 15).

Where is my data, and is it safe across upgrades? Everything is under %LOCALAPPDATA%\MultiAngleVideoPlayer. Upgrading and uninstalling never touch it (chapter 2).
